Ilex glabra 'Shamrock'

Shamrock Inkberry Holly

Slow growing, upright and mounded habit evergreen shrub that is found naturally in the coastal plains from sandy woods to bogs. They are good for borders and hedges and require minimal pruning. White inconspicous flowers bloom from April to June and produce black inkberries in the fall through winter. Gallberry honey is a very highly rated honey that is produced by allowing the bees to feed on this plant's flowers. The leaves were also dried and roasted to produce a black tea-like drink commonly called Appalachian tea.
