Camellia japonica 'Lady Clare'

Camellia japonica (Lady Clare Camellia)

Lady Clare Camellia

This wonderful camellia was originated by Ito Do'em in Japan and was called Akashigata. It was imported into the US where it was named Lady Clare. It can be traced back to 1859 under its Japanese name, but it is probably older. A fast-growing camellia of wide weeping growth, it blooms early and freely. The foliage is dark green, long, pointed and serrated. The large semi-double 5" in diameter blooms have a crepe-like texture, are a delicate carmine rose and may have matching petaloids.
