American Hornbeam
The American Hornbeam can grow wider than it is tall. It can be multi trunked with the trunks reaching 1' each. Small leaves grow parallel to each other on the branch and have many small veins through the leaf. Gets unique catkin flowers in the spring which hand from the tree branches. Bark is smooth and bluish gray. It is an attractive native tree.
